What are the qualifications to become a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)?

To be eligible for the Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian credential, a candidate must meet one of the following conditions.

  1. Candidate holds an Environmental Health Degree

    1. You are eligible for the credential if you have a Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. in environmental health from an accredited college or university.

  2. Candidate holds a Bachelors Degree

    1. You are eligible for the credential if you have a Bachelor's Degree which includes:

      1. An algebra course or higher level math; and

      2. 30 semester/45 quarter hours in the basic sciences, i.e. courses in biology, chemistry, physics, or other physical sciences, as well as sanitary engineering or environmental engineering; and

      3. Two or more years of experience in environmental health.
